Similar to the larger event earlier in the day, this filament eruption shows no GOES X-ray signature in spite of the large two-ribbon "flare" front that follows the filamant eruption. There is a marked rise in proton flux starting at ~3 UT on the 25th. Was this event or the earlier event responsible?

Emerging flux in coronal hole near central meridian results in a dome-shaped separator surface. Another event just to the south brightens more, but this event is not in a coronal hole.

Multiple surges from AR around the West limb. Final "surge" appears to be a very fast eruption.

Small/moderate limb flare on East limb. Most visible in 304, very little signal in 211. Rotational motion of ejecta is clearly visible.

A nice trans-equatorial coronal hole in the shape of a dippy bird. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drinking_bird for a nice physics lesson on dippy birds.

I am just adding difference movies for the X1.7 flare/halo CME associated with the largest SEP event in Solar Cycle 24. I choose the coronal wave category because of the clear large-scale disturbances.

This is another example of eruption in which changes in large-scale loops stand out more than filament material. The movie in 211 A looks most dramatic.

2012-01-27T02:32:04 --> 2012-01-27T19:04:04
A formation of the prominence extended along the limb in the plane of the sky. At first, some seemingly horizontal fragments of loops are seen in 171A. Than a small prominence raises up toll it reaches these loops. The entire structure is disturbed by the major eruption on the opposite spot on the limb. The prominence seems to be pressed down, what results in the extended horizontal V-like structure attached to the disk in the tip of the "V".
