A flare in an AR on the S hemisphere near central meridian, with ribbons around the AR and in the adjacent quiet-Sun unipolar network, with - later - interesting patterns of 'combed' loop bases in the QS area.

2014-10-19T03:44:03 --> 2014-10-19T09:20:03
A surge (strongly nonradial, directed towards the S) occurs (with much material later sliding back down again), in association with an X1.1 flare. The flare is associated with strong brightening of high loops (particularly in the 193 channel in the 211/193/171 triplet), but with no obvious bright kernels or diffraction patterns, and with saturation in the 193 channel only clearly at the loop tops.

Beautifui ribbons and post-flare loops can be seen. In the declining phase of the flare, the red sheath (94) around the yellow loops (193) suggests the higher loops are hotter than lower ones.

The footpoints of the flare loops in this X1.3 flare are occulted by the east limb. Supra-arcade downflows can be seen near the top of the candle flame, which appears after the impulsive phase.

A filament destabilizes and is quickly ejected out of the corona. Mid-eruption the filament looks like a bottle opener. Associated with the ejection of the filament is a global coronal wave and flare loops.

2014-01-04T19:30:03 --> 2014-01-05T01:10:03
This eruption is possibly associated with the GOES M4.0 flare which peaked at 2014-01-04T19:46:00. The post-eruption arcade loops seem to slide past each other in a counter-propagating direction, suggestive of slip-running reconnection.

2013-10-24T00:00:07 --> 2013-10-24T01:56:07
An AR on the southern hemisphere produces a large flare, associated with eruptions into the field towards the north and west. The eruption involve complex field dynamics around an X point between the flaring region and one towards the NE of it. Note that at the time of the flare/eruption there is an eruption over the E limb apparently synchronous, possibly sympathetic.

An impulsive eruption from AR 11719 sends a global blast wave propagating through much of the solar corona. The aftermath of this eruption is the appearance of post-eruption arcade loops.

An eruption from a small AR leads to ribbons around the region itself, but also to an interesting fan of ribbon-like brightenings to the south of the region, possibly outlining the network concentrations around a supergranular cell.

Flare in an AR just over the NE limb. Loop systems are seen to reconfigure for hours prior to the flare, and post-eruption loop system shows subsequent continued evolution. A helmet over a pair of arcade-like configurations suggest the presence of a null point above the flaring region.

This is the largest flare in solar cycle 24. The last flare with a similar magnitude (X9.0) occurred on 5 December 2006. It occurred impulsively in AR 12673, producing global waves. The associated halo CME is fast (maybe too fast to be measured in http://spaceweather.gmu.edu/seeds/mkmovie.php?cme=20170906.122407.w155.v0582.p243&frame=7&r).
